ACT WORD

OF THE WEEK       The ACT Word of the Week is STRINGENT (strin-juhnt).  STRINGENT is an adjective meaning STRICT, RIGOROUS, or EXACTING.

 

For example:  While most high school students aren't happy about stringent grading procedures, they will appreciate them when they get to college.

 

The ACT is next month, and we want to beat Huntley in THE CHALLENGE, so all of you juniors should be preparing in your classes, in the ACT 36 prep. class,

 

and on your own at home.  LET'S CRUSH HUNTLEY!

AVIATION

CAREERS              Students interested in Aviation Careers: Southern Illinois University is hosting an aviation careers day. The day includes a free flight from O'Hare to Carbondale, a tour of facilities, and a special presentation by united airlines regarding the aviation profession.  Applications are online at www.aviation.siu.edu/careerdays. GERMAN CLUB    Guten Morgen all you super Deutschers!

It was nice to see you all at our meeting Tuesday. We have made some decisions about t-shirts, but we need more input. Please come to our next meeting next Tuesday, March 16th in room 260. We will be finalizing things. Frau will have treats. See you from 3-3:30 next week.

 

 

HOCKEY                GOOD LUCK to our Varsity Hockey team this weekend as they face Highland Park in the Blackhawk State Cup semifinal game.  The Eagles have advanced to the Final Four in the State Tournament and will be battling the Giants on Saturday night at 5:05 at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.  Come out and support your hockey team and help them get to the Championship game!

 

HOST FAMILIES

OLYMPIAD

MEMBERS              All Illinois Science Olympiad Members please come to this year's last meeting today in Rm 223.

 

 

 

ORCHESIS             Listen up Jacobs: Now is your chance to see all that the art of dance has to offer!  Just come to the Orchesis recital Saturday, March 13th at 7:00 PM in the auditorium.  Tickets will be sold during lunch this week.  Get them while you can!

 

PEER

MEDIATION

FOOD DRIVE         Wake Up Jacobs!  Let's have some healthy competition between advisories.  This is the week to bring in nonperishable foods for the Peer Mediation Food Drive.  The advisory with the most items on Friday wins donuts next week.  Each advisory should pick two students to tally and deliver food to the faculty lounge on Friday.

 

 

SENIORS                SENIORS:  A representative from Elgin Community College will be here this Friday, March 12th.  If you are planning on attending ECC and have NOT applied to ECC yet, come to this informational meeting.  Sign up by Thursday in the Counseling Office to attend this meeting.

 

SENIOR

AWARDS                If you have received a scholarship from a local business, college, or university, please come down to the counseling office or student services to pick up the form for recognition at senior awards.  Senior awards will be held on Wednesday, May 26th from 8:30-10:30am.  Deadline for handling this form in to the counseling office is April 30th.  Please see Mrs. Adler in the counseling office with questions.

 

UPRISING              The Uprising is looking for talented musicians, guitarists, bass players, drummers, singers and pianists who are interesting in playing for the Uprising.  We will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, March 16 to discuss music that we are looking to have played and to see what we have for different levels of skill.

 

If you are interesting in playing please contact Kyle Vanover, Erik Melchers, Kristin Wodka or Sam Bruzan in the hallways.  Rock on Jacobs, Rock on.

                                               

 

 

WRESTLING          Anyone interested in open mats?  The program starts Tuesday March 16th, from  6 - 8:30 pm every Tuesday and Thursday.  You do need a current physical and emergency card.  See Coach Taylor for more information.
